Here are the top 4 reasons why building a deck is the right move!
Labor costs are more affordable. Let’s face it. Due to our current lackluster economy, there are a lot of deck builders who are staring at the phone hoping you call. Right now, you can land a reputable deck builder in your area that will build your deck in a timely, professional, and affordable manner.
Surprisingly, decking is now less expensive than most composite decking! It’s simple economics, really. Composite decking uses plastic and a key ingredient to making plastic is oil. Because the oil markets have been extremely volatile, the cost of plastic and plastic-based materials like composite decking have risen. However, the cost of ipe decking has stayed roughly the same and can even be bought at wholesale prices if you use the right company (try,Ipe Decking Co)
When you build a deck, you are helping your town’s and the nations economy. The reality is that hiring a deck builder and their crew, buying ipe decking or some other decking material from a lumber company, and getting your decking shipped to you helps everyone. In a way, your building a deck to increase the value of your home, helps ensure that many others get to keep theirs. In this way, it’s a great thing to contribute to our economy.
Last but not least, having a deck is cool. The memories that you and your family will have in later years will be filled with days spent out on the deck, talking, eating, and having fun. Those kinds of memories are priceless.

Well Ontario sure built a huge ipe deck! Actually we’ve seen boardwalks and and such that had much more board feet of decking material before, but this one is certainly interesting. It’s “wave shaped” (see video below). It’s meant to be interesting and draw people to downtown. Here’s a quick video tour:
It make sense that they would use ipe deck boards. they have to be sturdy, for durability it always makes sense to use ipe deck boards as they will easily last over 40 years with any maintainence, and damn do those deck boards look great with the sun shining on them like that!. did you notice the ipe wood benches the deck builder created to go with this deck?
A new trend seems to be sweeping the country. At least in the Deck Board industry and the Restaurant industry. Build a deck for your restaurant. Restaurant owners it’s becoming quite trendy to dine on the deck. It seems that if your deck is nice enough, the press will even take notice. We frequently scan the news sources of the internet looking for news about deck boards. We’re seeing a lot of articles about restaurants with Ipe Decks. Here’s a quote from one I just found today:
A horizontal fireplace, Brazilian Ipe decking and Cherry Blossom Trees create a warm, serene atmosphere to socialize and relax in, while taking in views of the D.C. skyline. Keeping with tradition, Thompson’s, infamous signature cocktail “The Thom” will also be available at ADC.
It actually sounds like a nice inviting place. (Maybe it’s just great writing because there was photo included). Read the rest of this entry »

Besides the hammer, the Hardwood Wrench® is most useful tool for anyone wanting to build a deck. There are other deck wrenches on the market and some are even serviceable. However, while only some work, the major problem is that they are so cheaply constructed that they break as often as they straighten out a deck board. In addition, other deck tools also fail to be reversible, so if you needed to fix a warped deck board that was close to a wall, the decking tool you had would be useless. Or, worse, you could try using it and end up going through some excruciating and time consuming “methods” of straightening the board. These methods include, jumping up and down on the board; kicking the board; and asking the board very politely if it will straighten itself out. If you are considering any of the above methods, then I think you’d be a good candidate to be a Hardwood Wrench® owner.
