San Francisco Decking Supplier

January 29th, 2010 by Don the Deck Board Expert

San Francisco evidently loves ipe. Sales of decking to the SF Bay area have always been strong but it seems that since there has been a restructuring of the export laws in Brazil and ipe decking is flowing, legally and in a controlled manner, that sales to the San Francisco area have gone through the roof.

Many tropical woods are being shipped to the San Francisco area according to my friends at Deck San Francisco, but the most popular in the area is easily, ipe decking. There’s lots of reason too.

In general tropical decking is less expensive than premium fake wood decking material like composite decking, vinyl decking etc. On top of that the tropical hardwoods look better and outperform composites decking (by a huge margin!) in all areas including strength, longevity, environmental issues, mold resistance, rot resistance and even wood boring/eating insect resistance. Of all the tropical hardwoods, ipe decking is the King of all decking.

So if you own a home or you’re a deck builder (psst. they WILL sell wholesale decking in deck builder, industrial or lumber yard type quantities) you owe it yourself to check out the amazing offerings this site has. they even list their prices right on their web site.

Still not convinced that ipe is the king of decking? Then learn more about ipe decking.

Need Wholesale Decking?

December 31st, 2009 by Don the Deck Board Expert

Commercial deck builders who need a container or truckload of exotic decking, this post is for you!

As we all know, it’s hard to find a reputable and noteworthy wholesale decking supplier. With the current economic climate, wholesale hardwood suppliers are dropping like flies and leaving their customers with no outlet. This is why, whenever I find a new company out there that is actually GROWING, I have to let you know about it.

Are you looking for exotic hardwood decking species Angelim Vermelho, Tatajuba, Massaranduba, and Sucupira? There’s a great wholesale hardwood decking site for people in the market for wholesale decking species. I’ve spoken to these guys and they definitely know their wood. They direct import from Brazil, so you get to save more in the long run.

The have an awesome selection to choose from. They even sell FSC certified wood and can get you a container of FSC ipe too!

Cocbolo Hunters

September 21st, 2009 by Don the Deck Board Expert

Every now and then I meet a woodworker that loves to work with woods with a unique look and that look great when polished. The most famous is cocobolo wood. Most of the people who work with exotic lumber know that it’s rare, even the wood workers (after all they pay the higher costs for this wood, thus probably know why it’s so much more expensive than other exotic hardwoods). But while realizing it’s rarity and beauty they at the same time don’t have a clue as to how it’s harvested. Once you learn that cocobolo is usually harvested a single tree at a time then a lot of you most common questions about cocobolo will be answered.

Check out the video above. It’s first in a series of videos from some of my lumber industry friends. The series follows them through the little adventure that is harvesting cocobolo lumber. In this first short and sweet episode, our intrepid party finds themselves, suddenly, alone in the the Mexican rain forest wondering if their guide will come back. Was the rigors of Cocobolo hunting too much for him? Did my friends mis-translate something and offended the guide? Did something eat him? Did he get eaten?

Ipe Decking Pictures

July 31st, 2009 by Don the Deck Board Expert

Just a quick note to announce a new page on deck-boards.com I’ve recently published a photo gallery showcasing some ipe decks. If you’ve been reading here before, you probably have realized that ipe decking material is my choice for best decking material. Homeowners are always happy when you use ipe on their deck. Homeowners like it when you get it right the first time. They also like the fact that ipe decking material is so eco-friendly. Commercial clients are more practical. They usually don’t care if it’s eco-friendly or not. Businesses like the fact the deck boards don’t have to be replaced for at least 40 years.

Anyway, here’s some pictures that show just how beautiful ipe decking is (another thing businesses and homeowners love):
